For the New York readers of this blog, this will be welcome news:
Republican George Pataki, who brought down a Democratic icon to become governor of New York and is now weighing a possible 2008 bid for the White House, was expected to announce Wednesday that he would not seek a fourth term next year, associates said.
Of course, if he wins the White House in 2008, their problem will be everyone's.

While we're on the subject of governors, another Republican was heard from while I was in the north yesterday. Mitt Romney, evidently getting his ducks in a row for his own run for president, has indicated his opposition to abortion in virtually any form.

And with John Roberts all but assured of acceptance into the Supreme Court, the American Taliban will send women's rights right back to the 19th century.
