Thank God some people have some integrity left.
A coalition of Democrats and Republicans blocked Senate approval of a massive energy bill Friday, maintaining the legislation provides too many handouts to industry and would jeopardize cleanup of drinking water contaminated by a gasoline additive. This bill had everything the Bushies stand for—charity for multibillion dollar corporations, inadequate attention paid to the environment, and, lest we forget, a 1700-page piece of legislation that was introduced to the full Senate the day before the Republicans insisted it be voted on.
I hope I'm not grasping at straws when I say that this is one victory for the good guys. I'll feel a little better when the Senate votes down the odious Medicare bill.
