Former state Treasurer Paul J. Silvester admitted in court Thursday to using his control over hundreds of millions of dollars in state pension funds to steer huge sums of money to himself, his friends and his political benefactors ...
Looking paler and heavier than he did during his last court appearance late in 2000, Silvester detailed a series of payments he said he arranged for former Republican secretary of the state candidate Ben F. Andrews, Fairfield County financial consultant Christopher A. Stack and Lisa A. Thiesfield, Silvester's girlfriend. He also described steering a $200 million investment of state pension funds to the Triumph Capital Group of Boston in exchange for more than $100,000 in potentially illegal campaign contributions.
I trust that Triumph Capital wasn't promoting Enron. No, wait. That was our unctuous governor.
