Kristof reports today that WMD still haven't been found in Iraq and Private Lynch was not the real-life Lara Croft we were led to believe.
It looks as if the first accounts of the rescue were embellished, like the imminent threat from W.M.D., and like wartime pronouncements about an uprising in Basra and imminent defections of generals. There's a pattern: we were misled.
I heard a ludicrous interview this morning on NPR with Evan Bayh, a nominal Democrat from Indiana. He fell all over himself trying to justify the lack of WMD and the duplicitous assertions of the Bushies. The Bushies will have no problems trying to sell their bill of goods to the Senate as long as jellyfish like Senator Bayh are in it.

He's a poor substitute for his father.
