Greater Hartford Open tournament Director Dan Baker [became] aware ... Wednesday that his tournament will directly butt heads with the Pilot Pen during the summers of 2004 and 2005.

Though PGA Tour scheduling has been fixed for months, no one apparently bothered to consider — or perhaps care — that the weeks assigned to the GHO in each of the next two years coincide with the traditional late-August date of the WTA's Pilot Pen.
Poor Connecticut. It seems as if no one ever seems to care about its sporting events. First the Big East defection and now this.

Connecticut has two major sports events every summer. To schedule them simultaneously is ridiculous. I'm sure the powers that be will try to change a date, but these seem pretty much fixed.
